How to get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke

The smell of cigarette smoke can linger for a long time in your home or car - here's how to combat and banish it for good.

Cigarette smoke has an annoying habit of lingering in the air and particularly on fabrics.

If you have young children (or know a lot of staunch anti-smokers ), then you'll be even more keen to rid your living space (or wherever) of the telltale smell.

Unfortunately, leaving the windows open alone isn't going to cut it.

To rid your home of the smell of cigarette smoke, follows these simple solutions and deep clean pointers.

1. Use baking soda Dust baking soda on your furniture and carpets and leave it overnight, advises DenGarden.

By leaving it overnight, the baking soda can absorb the smell of smoke - as well as any other odours you could live without.

2. vinegar
It may not be the most pleasant-smelling item in your cupboard, but vinegar can be used effectively on clothes which smell of smoke.

Simply steam them using vinegar. In a tub of hot water, add one cup of vinegar then hang your clothes above the tub. The steam will help remove the stench.

3. Apples
Many of these methods involve leaving certain items or solutions around - the same applies to apples, which are surprisingly good at absorbing odours.

Cut the apple in half and leave it where you need - it also comes with the bonus of leaving your house smelling of apples.

4. . Steam clean the carpets.
As with your walls and ceilings, your floors will also retain a "film" of smoke - especially if they're carpeted.

Hire or buy a steam cleaner and add a deodoriser to your carpet steamer to power through stubborn smells.

5. Get an air purifier
And if none of these methods work, then it's time to pull out the big guns, An air purifier will actually pull the odour- causing bacteria and chemicals out of the air itself.

You'll be left with a room or car that smells squeaky clean - and which will have been rid of other allergens.
